DCA seizes ₹2.7 lakh worth sildenafil tablets shipped illegally from Kanpur

HYDERABAD: Drugs Control Administration (DCA), Telangana, seized stocks of sildenafil tablets worth ₹2.7 lakh during a raid on a logistics depot in Hayathnagar in Ranga Reddy district. The consignment was allegedly shipped illegally from Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh without invoices.

Acting on credible information, officials of the DCA’s Ranga Reddy zone conducted a raid on March 13, 2026 at the depot of logistics service provider Delhivery Limited at H. No. 4-10-483, Plot No. 4, Autonagar, Hayathnagar mandal.

During the inspection, officers detected 7,300 sildenafil tablets of 100 mg strength under the brand name Dr Josh, bearing Batch No. AGT305126, manufactured in May 2023 and expiring in April 2026. The tablets were claimed to be manufactured by Alventa Pharma Limited, Solan, Himachal Pradesh.

Officials said the consignment had been shipped from Kanpur without any invoices, violating drug regulatory norms.

Suspect linked to previous spurious drug cases

According to DCA officials, the consignment was allegedly shipped by Puvvada Lakshmana, described as a habitual spurious drug offender. Several cases related to spurious drugs are already pending against him in the state.

Sildenafil tablets are used in the treatment of erectile dysfunction.

Samples lifted for analysis

The raid was carried out by L. Raju, drugs inspector, Hayathnagar, and J. Nagaraju, drugs inspector, Saroornagar, under the supervision of G. Prasad, assistant director, Ranga Reddy.

Officials said samples of the seized drugs were collected for analysis. Further investigation is underway, and action will be taken against those involved as per law.

Illegal sourcing, stocking and sale of drugs are punishable under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, which provides for imprisonment of up to five years.

The Drugs Control Administration urged the public to report illegal drug-related activities through its toll-free helpline 1800-599-6969, operational from 10.30 IST to 17.00 IST on working days.
