DCA seizes misleading medicines for urinary stones and rheumatism in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: The Drugs Control Administration (DCA) of Telangana has seized several medicines after discovering that they were making misleading claims about their efficacy. Among the products seized were URIFLOW Oral Solution, Sandhi Yog Syrup, and Stone Gone Capsules, which falsely claimed to treat conditions such as ‘Urinary Stones’ and ‘Rheumatism.’
These actions were taken following raids conducted on March 11 and 12, where DCA officials found these medicines circulating in the market. The claims made on the labels of these products were in violation of the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954, and Rule 106 of the Drugs Rules, 1945. This legislation prohibits advertisements for certain drugs, particularly those that claim to treat specific diseases or disorders.
URIFLOW Oral Solution, an allopathic medicine containing Potassium Citrate and Magnesium Citrate, was found to be falsely claiming to treat ‘Urinary Stones.’ It was manufactured by Concord Drugs Ltd in Rangareddy district, Telangana and marketed by Mansa Medi Impex in Hyderabad. The product was discovered in Medchal.
Sandhi Yog Syrup, an Ayurvedic medicine that claimed to treat ‘Rheumatism,’ was manufactured by Arogya Jyothi Pharmacy in Gujarat and was found in Adilabad. Stone Gone Capsules, another Ayurvedic product, falsely claimed to treat ‘Renal Stones.’ This product was manufactured by Levanza Food and Herbals in Punjab and marketed by PCHPL Wellness in Punjab. It was detected in Ameenpur, Sangareddy District.
The advertisement of medicines for the treatment of such conditions is prohibited under the Drugs and Magic Remedies Act. The DCA officials involved in the raids included B. Mounika from Medchal, A. Srilatha from Adilabad, and T. Praveen Kumar from Bollaram.
The DCA has stated that further investigation is underway, and legal action will be taken against those responsible for the misleading advertisements. Under the Drugs and Magic Remedies Act and the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940, those found guilty face penalties.
V.B. Kamalasan Reddy, Director General of DCA, urged the public to report any suspicious drug manufacturing activities or illegal distribution through the DCA’s toll-free number: 1800-599-6969. The line is operational from 10:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on working days.
