Hyderabad: Drugs Control Administration (DCA), Telangana, in a joint operation with the Telangana Anti-Narcotics Bureau (TGANB), seized illegally stocked Mephentermine Sulphate Injections in Manikonda Jagir, Ranga Reddy District. The drugs were being sold to gym-goers for misuse in bodybuilding.

The operation took place on January 18 at an unlicensed premises in Sivaji Nagar, Manikonda Jagir, which was linked to Bariga Akash. Acting on credible information, DCA and TGANB officials raided the place and confiscated 14 vials of TERMIVA Injections and 4 vials of TERMIN Injections, both containing Mephentermine Sulphate (30 mg/ml).

Mephentermine Sulphate is a cardiac stimulant used to treat low blood pressure, typically in surgical settings. While it has legitimate medical uses, it is being misused by bodybuilders to enhance endurance and performance.

Abuse of Mephentermine can lead to serious side effects, including cardiovascular disorders, psychosis, and the development of tolerance and dependence. The sale and distribution of these injections without a prescription is illegal and violates the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, with violators facing up to five years in prison.

The raid was led by DCA officers D. Swetha Bindu, K. Anvesh, and G. Ravi Kiran, in coordination with TGANB.
