DCA Seizes Expired Drugs Secunderabad

Secunderabad: Officials from the Drugs Control Administration (DCA), Secunderabad, conducted a raid on Kandar Medicals, situated within the premises of Kandar Diabetic Centre in Tarnaka, Secunderabad, on Monday, September 2, 2024.

During the operation, DCA officials seized a variety of unauthorised items, including physician samples and expired drugs, which were illegally stocked for sale. Physician samples, intended solely for distribution to doctors for their patients as free samples, are not permitted for retail sale.

The raid resulted in the confiscation of nine types of physician’s samples, six varieties of expired drugs, and one institutional supply drug, collectively valued at approximately Rs. 55,000.

The team involved in the raid comprised D. Saritha, Assistant Director, Secunderabad; B. Govind Singh, Drugs Inspector, Secunderabad; G. Anil, Drugs Inspector, Malakpet; P. Renuka, Drugs Inspector, Musheerabad; and M. Surendranath, Drugs Inspector, Begumpet.

Further investigation is underway, and appropriate legal action will be taken against those responsible in accordance with the law. The Drugs Control Administration, Telangana, remains vigilant in curbing the illegal sale of medicines, including physician’s samples and expired drugs. Violators can face imprisonment for up to two years under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act.

The public is encouraged to report any suspected drug manufacturing activities, including those involving narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, in residential, commercial, or industrial areas.
