DCA confiscates 76 varieties of medicines in Secunderabad

Secunderabad: The Drugs Control Administration(DCA) officials raided medical shops in Vampuguda and Banda Maisamma Nagar, Hyderabad, and found they were operating without licenses.

On 18th December 2024, officials of the Drugs Control Administration, Quthbullapur Zone, raided Sri Sai Bhavani Medical and General Stores in Krishna Nagar Colony, Vampuguda, Kapra, Medchal-Malkajgiri District. They acted on credible information about illegal medicine sales. A statement released by DCA read, “The medical shop was operating illegally without a valid drug license.”

In a separate operation, DCA officials of Secunderabad Zone, acting on credible information about the illegal sale of medicines, raided a medical shop in Banda Maisamma Clinic, Community Hall, Ground floor, Beside Banda Maisamma Temple, Banda Maisamma Nagar, Near Indira Park, Hyderabad. “The medical shop was operating illegally at the said premises without a valid drug licence.

During two raids, DCA officers detected unauthorized stocking of large quantities of medicines for sale. The two premises contained a total of 76 varieties, including Antibiotics, Steroids, Antiulcer drugs, IV fluids, Antihypertensive drugs, and others. The officials seized stock worth Rs. 35,000, said a statement released by DCA.

DCA warns against illegal drug sales

DCA officers lifted the samples for analysis. Further investigation and legal action will follow against all offenders. Wholesalers/Dealers supplying medicines to unlicensed entities stocking and selling drugs without a license face punishment under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, and stringent action will follow. Wholesalers/Dealers must ensure the recipient entities hold a valid drug license before supplying medicines.

The Drugs Control Administration, Telangana, issues drug licenses for stocking and selling medicines as per the Drugs and Cosmetics Act. Stocking drugs for sale without a license is punishable under the Act, with imprisonment for up to five years.
