Telangana DCA registers 159 cases against quacks, raids clinic in Mulugu seizing illegal drugs

Hyderabad: The Drugs Control Administration (DCA) of Telangana raided a quack’s clinic in Medaram Village, Tadvai Mandal, Mulugu District, on April 8, 2025, in connection with the illegal stocking and sale of drugs. The unqualified practitioner, Gadam Manoj, was found operating a clinic without the necessary qualifications and drug license.
This raid is part of the ongoing efforts by the DCA, which has registered cases against 159 quacks since January 2024 for illegal drug activities.
During the raid, officials seized 35 varieties of medicines, including antibiotics, steroids, and analgesics, valued at Rs. 18,000. These medicines were being stored and sold without a valid drug license. Physician’s samples were also found at the clinic.
Among the drugs seized were antibiotics such as Cefixime, Cefpodoxime, and Amoxycillin. The sale of these antibiotics by unqualified individuals poses a significant risk to public health, including the potential emergence of antimicrobial resistance. Additionally, steroids like Dexamethasone were discovered, and their misuse can lead to serious health consequences, including immune suppression, hormonal imbalances, and cardiovascular problems.
The raid was conducted by P. Pavani, Drugs Inspector, Bhupalpally, under the supervision of Dr. G. Rajyalakshmi, Assistant Director, Warangal. The seized drugs have been sent for analysis, and further investigation will follow. Legal action will be taken against those involved in the illegal sale and stocking of drugs.
The DCA also warned wholesalers and dealers who supply medicines to unqualified practitioners without a valid drug license, noting that they are also liable for punishment under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act. Wholesalers must ensure that recipients hold the appropriate drug licenses before supplying medications.
The DCA reiterated that stocking and selling drugs without a valid license is a punishable offense under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, with penalties of up to five years in prison. The public is urged to report any illegal drug activities through the DCA’s toll-free number, 1800-599-6969, operational from 10:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on weekdays.
V.B. Kamalasan Reddy, Director General of DCA, called on the public to remain vigilant and report any suspected illegal drug-related activities.
