DCA officials seize medicines with misleading advertisements in Hyderabad

Hyderabad/ Madhura Nagar/ Abids: As the country is closely watching the apex court cracking a whip against Patanjali for its misleading advertisements, Telangana Drugs Control Administration(DCA) led by V B Kamalhasan unveiled certain medicines with misleading advertisements being used in treatment of patients on Wednesday. These medicines were seized from medical shops at M J Market, Abids and Madhuranagar during the raids.

According to the Drugs Control Administration officials the medicines are claimed to treat ‘heart diseases’ and ‘disorders of menstrual flow’. Same was being printed on the labels and selling it in the market. This clearly violates Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954.

In a special drive conducted over two days( 23rd and 24th of April), DCA officials detected medicines distributing in the market with misleading and objectionable advertisements.The two products ‘Cardinol Joshanda’ and Colinol-SPAS TABLETS’ which are being marketed claiming to treat Heart blockages and menstrual disorders respectively.

Seized Unani and allopathic medicines

DCA officials in a press statement released the names of manufactures of the medicines-
“‘Cardinol Joshanda’, an Unani medicine is being manufactured by Ahmed & Company, Gaganpahad, Hyderabad and ‘Colinol-SPAS TABLETS’, (Mefenamic Acid and Dicyclomine Hydrochloride Tablets IP), an allopathic medicine, manufactured by Vivimed Labs Ltd., Kashipur, Uttarakhand”. The products label bears a misleading claim stating that it clears the heart blockages and treats spasmodic dysmenorrhea, menstrual disorders respectively added DCA officials. The stocks of medicines were seized by the officials and further investigation is underway.

As per the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954, misleading advertisement of certain drugs for treatment of certain diseases and disorders is punishable. Further, DCA officials warned the miscreants who make misleading advertisements as it a punishable offence under Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954, with imprisonment which may extend to six months, or with fine, or with both.

DCA officials T. Rajamouli, Assistant Director, Hyderabad, V. Ajay, Drugs Inspector, Goshamahal, C. Vivekanda Reddy, Drugs Inspector, Yousufguda and P. Santosh, Drugs Inspector, Mehdipatnam are among the officers who carried out the raids.
