Daughters live with mother’s deceased body for nine days in Secunderabad

Secunderabad: In a disturbing incident in Secunderabad, two daughters remained in the same house with their motherโs body for nine days before seeking help. The incident was discovered on January 31, 2025, when the sisters reached out to their neighbors.
According to the police reports, Sri Lalitha, 45, had been living with her daughters Ravalika (25) and Ashwitha (22) in a rented house in Warasiguda. Lalithaโs husband, Raju, had left the family in 2020, leaving the daughters to support the household. The family was experiencing financial difficulties, including unpaid rent for over three months, and had asked their landlord for more time to vacate the house by January 21, 2025.
On January 22, Lalitha passed away under circumstances that remain under investigation. Her daughters, devastated by her death and struggling with their emotional well-being, chose to remain in the house with the body for nine days. The sisters also attempted to take their own lives, but the attempts were unsuccessful.
It was only on January 31 that the daughters confided in their neighbors, who then helped them contact local MLA T. Padmarao Goud. The MLA informed the police, who arrived at the scene and transferred Lalitha’s body to Gandhi Hospital for an autopsy.
The Warasiguda police have registered a case of suspicious death, and an investigation is ongoing. The daughters, in a state of distress, provided inconsistent answers during questioning. The cause of Lalitha’s death has not yet been determined.
