Nizamabad’s Dasari Anil Kumar enters Malaysia badminton tournament

TELANGANA: A young ball badminton player from Nandipet mandal has qualified for an international tournament in Malaysia scheduled until March 4. The player, Dasari Anil Kumar, rose from school-level competitions to represent India on the global stage through sustained training.
Anil Kumar hails from Siddapur village in Nandipet mandal of Nizamabad district. His parents, Sayanna and Sujatha, are farmers. He began training in ball badminton in 2014 under P.D. Nageswara Rao in Uppalwai while he was still in school.
He continued his education up to degree level and progressed in the sport with support from the sports association. He made his national-level debut in 2016. Since then, he has represented in national tournaments 11 times and won medals.
Under the guidance of coach and sports association general secretary Shyam, he refined his skills. Selection trials for the India–Malaysia international tournament were held recently in New Delhi. After qualifying, he completed a preparatory camp in Hyderabad.
“After my degree, I moved away from the sport for some time. With encouragement from coach Shyam, I returned to the court. My goal in the Malaysia tournament is team victory. I aim to secure a senior government job under the sports quota,” Anil Kumar said.
