Residents concerned over dangerous hanging electrical wires in Begumpet street

Begumpet: Residents of Viqar Nagar near the BRS Party office lane in Begumpet have raised concerns over dangerously hanging electrical wires in their area. The residents fear that these wires pose a serious risk to public safety and have called on Telangana State Power Distribution Company Limited (TGSPDCL) to take immediate action.
The issue was first highlighted by a local resident, Rusty (@Rusty_2001), on the social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter). In his post, Rusty said, “Electric wires hanging below may be dangerous for residents of Viqar Nagar at BRS Party office lane, Begumpet. @tgspdcl @musharraf_ias @spdcl_tg.”

In response, SE OPERATION BANJARAHILLS (@se_op_bhills) acknowledged the complaint, stating, “Dear Consumer, Your details are noted. We have informed the concerned officer.”
Dear Consumer,
Your details are noted. We have informed to the concerned officer.— SE OPERATION BANJARAHILLS (@se_op_bhills) December 29, 2024
However, some social media users have questioned the effectiveness of the response, with one commenter pointing out, “It is the electricity department that has installed the dangerously dangling service wires supplying power to each flat in this heavily crowded area. What will any concerned officer do now? Disconnect and neatly arrange the wiring in a service duct or something?”
Rusty, speaking to Hyderabad Mail anonymously, expressed frustration over the lack of action despite TGSPDCL’s initial response. “I reported this incident five days ago, and while TGSPDCL responded that they had noted the issue, nothing has changed on our street so far. What if an accident happens due to these dangerous wires?” he said.
Rusty has urged the authorities to take swift action to prevent potential injuries or fatalities. This is not the first time concerns have been raised about hanging cables in Hyderabad.
In August 2024, TGSPDCL Chairman and Managing Director Musharraf Faruqui held a review meeting with cable operators and Internet Service Providers to address the issue. Faruqui expressed concerns over the growing risks posed by the disorganized cables hanging from electric poles, which he noted were bending several poles under the excessive weight.
He also highlighted the hazard posed to pedestrians, motorists, and electricity staff. During the meeting, Faruqui called on operators and service providers to remove unused cables and properly arrange those that were necessary. He instructed that poles on main roads be cleared within a week, and those on other roads within two weeks.
Despite these efforts, concerns about hazardous hanging wires continue to persist in various parts of the city.
