Daggubati Family Members Booked in Demolition Case

Hyderabad: In a case presented before the Honโ€™ble XVII Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate, Nampally, Hyderabad, the complainant and director of W3 Hospitality Services Pvt. Ltd. filed a complaint against several film personalities, including Daggubati Suresh Babu, Daggubati Venkatesh, Daggubati Rama Naidu Rana, and D. Abiram. The complaint alleges illegal actions involving demolition and theft from leased properties in Filmnagar, Hyderabad.

According to the complaint, the dispute centers around properties located at Plot No. 2 and Plot No. 3, Road No. 1, Filmnagar, which were leased to the complainant’s firm, W3 Hospitality Services Pvt. Ltd., for operating a hotel business. The complainant asserts that the first accused, Daggubati Suresh Babu, who held power of attorney for the propertyโ€™s owner, leased Plot No. 2 to P. Pramod Kumar in 2014. The agreement reportedly included a refundable security deposit of Rs. 5.10 lakh and a monthly rent of Rs. 1 lakh plus taxes.

Subsequently, the complainant and Pramod Kumar jointly operated a hotel on the premises. In 2018, however, the accused attempted to reclaim possession of the property, despite an agreement of sale that allegedly transferred ownership of Plot No. 2 to the complainant. The complaint also mentions another lease agreement executed by D. Venkatesh (Accused 2) in favor of W3 Hospitality Services Pvt. Ltd. for a different property (Plot No. 3), where the complainant had invested a considerable amount to establish a restaurant called “Deccan Kitchen.”

The situation reportedly escalated when the complainant faced threats of dispossession, leading to a civil suit for injunction. Despite an interim injunction issued by the court, which has been extended periodically, the complainant claims that the accused continued to attempt to demolish the property.

In November 2022, the GHMC (Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation) initiated unauthorized demolition work on the properties. The complainant asserts that the demolition stopped only after his family intervened, citing orders from the Telangana High Court.

However, the complaint further alleges that on the evening of November 13, 2022, around 50-60 individuals, including alleged hired bouncers and anti-social elements, stole valuable items from the properties, causing a reported loss of Rs. 5.20 crore. The complainantโ€™s family members were reportedly threatened during this incident. Additional claims were made about continued efforts by the accused to illegally demolish the property and intimidate the complainant’s security personnel in January 2024.

The FIR described that despite efforts to alert local authorities, including the SHO of Filmnagar Police Station and the Commissioner of Police, no action was taken. Subsequently, the complainant sought the intervention of the Telangana High Court. The court acknowledged the prior complaint concerning the demolition on November 13, 2022, but noted that new incidents in January 2024 were not addressed.

The complainant has requested the Honโ€™ble Court to direct the Filmnagar Police Station to conduct an investigation under Section 156(3) of the Criminal Procedure Code (Cr.P.C.), as he believes the accused have engaged in illegal actions, including criminal trespass, theft, and conspiracy. The court is expected to decide on the next course of action in this matter.
