Cyclist dies in a hit-and-run in Madhapur

Hyderabad: A 33-year-old cyclist was killed after being hit by a speeding vehicle in Madhapur on Saturday. The accident occurred near Parvat Nagar junction in the early morning.

The deceased has been identified as Ganesh who worked in a private firm. According to Madhapur police, he was on his way to work around 7 am and a speeding car hit him from behind.

The impact of the collision was such that he fell down on the roadside and suffered a serious injury to his head. Due to excessive bleeding, he died on the spot.

After receiving a call, the police rushed to the spot and shifted the body to a government hospital for postmortem. The car driver was taken into police custody for questioning, Madhapur Inspector S Krishna Mohan said.

The police quickly traced the registration number of the vehicle involved in the hit-and-run case and have taken the car driver into police custody for questioning. Nobody from the deceased’s family has lodged a formal complaint yet, the official added.

Meanwhile, Hyderabad Cyclists Union has expressed anguish and grief over the death of a ‘low income’ cyclist. The X handle with the username ‘Bicycle Mayor of Hyderabad’ has requested the Madhapur police to ensure justice for the victim’s family.

It may be noted here that two persons were killed in a tragic accident when their bike skidded off the road and collided with a divider under the Madhapur police station limits on Friday evening, December 27.

The deceased were identified as Raghu Babu and Akansh, residents of Borabanda. According to the reports, the speeding Jawa bike was traveling along the 100-feet road in Ayyappa Society when the accident occurred. It is suspected that the rider was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash.

One of the victims died at the scene, while the other succumbed to injuries on the way to the hospital. The Madhapur police have registered a case and are investigating the incident.
