Weekend drunk driving checks net 377 offenders in Cyberabad

305 Drunk Driving Cases Registered By Cyberabad Traffic Police

HYDERABAD: Cyberabad Traffic Police conducted a special weekend drunk driving enforcement drive, booking 377 motorists for driving under the influence of alcohol, officials said.

According to police, two-wheelers accounted for the bulk of the violations with 300 cases, followed by four-wheelers at 58, three wheelers at 17 and two heavy vehicle drivers.

BAC levels show high intoxication among repeat offenders

Police data showed that 317 offenders recorded Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) levels between 35 mg/100 ml and 200 mg/100 ml. Another 39 drivers tested between 201 mg/100 ml and 300 mg/100 ml, while 21 recorded alarmingly high levels ranging from 301 mg/100 ml to 550 mg/100 ml.

All the offenders will be produced before the court, police said.

Police cite stringent law for fatal accidents

Reiterating zero tolerance towards drunk driving, Cyberabad Police warned that motorists causing fatal accidents while driving under the influence will be booked under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, dealing with culpable homicide not amounting to murder. The offence carries a maximum punishment of 10 years’ imprisonment along with a fine.

In the previous week between December 22 and December 27, 2025, courts disposed of 55 drunk driving cases. One offender was sentenced to fine and jail, five were awarded fine and social service, while 49 were fined, police added.
