Cyberabad sees traffic surge from single riders

HYDERABAD: Cyberabad traffic police said single riders are driving congestion in the IT corridor, based on a peak-hour survey near Cyber Towers in Madhapur.
The study, conducted on the directions of Cyberabad Commissioner Dr M Ramesh, found that 10,138 vehicles had lone riders within one hour. In comparison, only 3,584 commuters travelled as double riders.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic Administration) Ranjan Ratan Kumar said single riders outnumbered double riders by 6,554 during the survey period.
He said the rise in single-occupancy vehicles has increased traffic volume, leading to long jams in the IT corridor.
The DCP said this trend results in loss of time, higher fuel costs, and an increase in road accidents.
He urged software employees and the public to adopt ride-sharing, carpooling with colleagues, or use public transport such as buses and the metro.
“If IT employees cooperate, Cyberabad can become a traffic-free city,” he said.
