Madhapur: Continuing its drive against drunk drivers to enhance road safety, Cyberabad Traffic Police apprehended 212 offenders during the weekend on Friday and Saturday nights.

With the increase in alcohol impairment related crashes in Cyberabad commissionerate limits,
Cyberabad traffic police led large-scale enforcement against intoxicated drivers in commissionerate limits during the weekend. During the operation, a total of 165 two-wheelers, 10 three-wheelers, 34 four-wheelers, and 3 heavy vehicle drivers were caught for driving under the influence of alcohol.

Further Cyberabad traffic police nabbed 21 offenders with Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) ranging between 200 mg/100 ml and 550 mg/100 ml. All apprehended individuals will be produced before the Court for further legal proceedings.

It is pertinent to note that, the Cyberabad commissionerate saw two horrific accidents in the wee hours of Sunday resulting in the death of one and injuring five people in separate crashes on Sunday. Both the crashes were captured in the CCTV and the footage of the same is going viral on social media.

Cyberabad traffic police caution motorists that they should remember that alcohol hampers vision due to dizziness and it also dampens fear and incite humans to take risks. All these factors while driving result in accidents and many times prove fatal.

“If anybody indulges in driving under the influence of alcohol and causes accidents resulting in fatalities, such persons will be arrested and prosecuted under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (culpable homicide not amounting to murder). The maximum punishment for this offence is 10 years of imprisonment and a fine” said Cyberabad traffic police in an official statement.

Earlier Cyberabad traffic officials warned about the menace of alcohol impairment driving and said, “Drunk driving and unauthorized driving have been major causes of road crashes and fatalities in Cyberabad. We have been taking stringent legal action against such violators.” In light of the increasing number of road accidents due to drunk driving, the police have begun to act strictly against such drivers.

The Cyberabad Police urge all citizens to abide by traffic regulations and ensure safety on the roads to prevent such incidents in the future.
