Cyberabad Traffic Police register 290 drunk-driving cases on Valentine’s Day

Hyderabad: In view of Valentine’s Day, on February 14, 2025, Cyberabad Traffic Police conducted a drunk driving check and registered 290 cases. The enforcement drive was conducted across various police stations in the city, with the following details on the cases registered.
The police stations that recorded the highest number of cases were Miyapur Tr PS with 36 cases, Chevella Tr PS with 26 cases, and Shamshabad Tr PS with 21 cases. Other police stations also reported significant numbers: Balanagar Tr PS saw 30 cases, Gachibowli Tr PS had 11 cases, and Rajendra Nagar Tr PS and Medchal Tr PS had 16 cases. Narsingi Tr PS recorded 15 cases, while Kukatpally Tr PS had 14 cases. Alwal Tr PS and Jeedimetla Tr PS reported 19 and 21 cases, respectively. Raidurgam Tr PS recorded the least, with just 5 cases.
In terms of vehicle types, the majority of the cases involved two-wheelers, with 242 cases being booked for riders. Three-wheelers accounted for 10 cases, while four-wheelers saw 37 cases. Only one case was booked involving a heavy vehicle.
All 290 cases involved male drivers, with no cases registered for females. Regarding age distribution, most of the violators were in the 21-40 age range, with 102 cases from individuals aged 21-30 and 103 cases from those aged 31-40. Additionally, 65 cases were reported from drivers between the ages of 41-50, and 14 cases were registered for drivers aged 51-60. Three cases were registered for drivers aged 61 and above. There were no cases involving individuals under the age of 18.
In terms of blood alcohol content (BAC), the majority of the accused had BAC levels between 51-100, with 118 cases in this category. 55 cases were registered for individuals with BAC below 50, while 58 cases involved BAC levels ranging from 101-150. Additionally, 27 cases were booked for individuals with BAC levels between 151-200, and 24 cases were recorded for BAC levels between 201-300. Eight cases involved individuals with BAC levels above 300.

The Cyberabad Traffic Police have issued a stern warning to those driving under the influence, stating that individuals involved in fatal accidents while intoxicated will face arrest and prosecution under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder). This section carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a fine.
In a statement, the CTP urged all motorists to abide by traffic laws and prioritize road safety, stressing that such enforcement drives are critical to protecting citizens from the dangers posed by drunk driving.
