Cyberabad police book 435 for drunk driving in weekend drive

HYDERABAD: Cyberabad Traffic Police booked 435 people for drunk driving during a special enforcement drive over the weekend.
According to police, the highest number of offenders were two-wheeler riders at 306, followed by 97 four-wheeler drivers, 30 three-wheeler drivers and two heavy vehicle drivers.
BAC levels of offenders
Of the total, 383 offenders had blood alcohol concentration (BAC) between 35 mg/100 ml and 200 mg/100 ml. Forty-one tested between 201 mg/100 ml and 300 mg/100 ml, while 11 had BAC levels in the range of 301 mg/100 ml to 550 mg/100 ml.
All those caught will be produced before court, officials said.
Police cite new criminal law
Cyberabad police reminded citizens that driving in an inebriated condition is a serious offence. “If anyone causes a fatal accident while drunk, they will be booked under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder). The maximum punishment is 10 years in jail along with a fine,” a statement said.
910 cases disposed in a week
Between September 8 and September 13, courts disposed of 910 drunk driving cases in Cyberabad. Of these, 908 offenders were fined, while two were sentenced to jail. One person was jailed for one day and another for two days. In addition, two persons were assigned social service as part of the penalty.
Police have urged citizens to drive responsibly and ensure road safety.
