Drunk driving: 529 booked in weekend checks across Cyberabad

HYDERABAD: The Cyberabad traffic police caught 529 persons for drunk driving during a special weekend drive. Among them were 417 two-wheeler riders, 24 three-wheeler drivers and 88 four-wheeler drivers.
According to officials, the Rajendranagar traffic police recorded the highest number of cases at 71, followed by KPHB with 54, and Gachibowli and Shadnagar with 42 each.
Cases booked; offenders to face court
Of those caught, 460 individuals registered Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) levels between 35 mg/100 ml and 300 mg/100 ml, while 29 persons recorded BAC levels between 301 mg/100 ml and 550 mg/100 ml. Police said all offenders have been booked and must appear before the court.
Court imposes jail, fines, and social service
Earlier, between November 3 and 7, the Cyberabad traffic police had produced 357 persons before court for similar offences. All were convicted 307 were fined, 27 were directed to do social service in addition to fines, and 23 were sentenced to jail terms with fines.
Traffic police said the drive would continue to discourage drunk driving and improve road safety in the Cyberabad region.
