Cyberabad police nab 457 drunk driving offenders in weekend drive

HYDERABAD: Cyberabad Traffic Police booked 457 motorists during a weekend special enforcement drive against drunk driving conducted across the commissionerate limits.
Most cases among two-wheeler riders
According to police, the vehicle-wise breakdown showed that 346 cases involved two-wheelers, 20 three-wheelers, 86 four-wheelers and five heavy vehicles.
BAC levels and legal action
Of the total offenders, 399 had Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) levels between 35 mg/100 ml and 200 mg/100 ml; 34 recorded between 201 mg/100 ml and 300 mg/100 ml; and 24 were found with readings as high as 550 mg/100 ml.
Police said all offenders will be produced before court. Officials reiterated that drunk driving is a serious offence and warned that if any intoxicated driver causes a fatal accident, they would be booked under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), which carries a maximum punishment of 10 years’ imprisonment and a fine.
336 cases disposed in courts last week
In the previous week (October 20–25, 2025), courts disposed of 336 drunk driving cases. Of these, 317 persons were fined, 19 were sentenced to jail, and 23 others were assigned social service. Among those jailed, six received one-day sentences and 13 received two-day terms.
Cyberabad Traffic Police urged citizens to avoid driving after consuming alcohol and emphasised that strict enforcement will continue to ensure road safety.
