HYDERABAD: Cyberabad Police Commissioner Dr M Ramesh distributed 1,016 recovered mobile phones to their owners during the 10th phase of phone recovery at the Cyberabad Police Commissioner’s Office on Tuesday, March 10, 2026.
The phones, traced through the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal, are worth about ₹3,04,80,000.
Phones traced through CEIR portal across Cyberabad zones
Police recovered the phones from different zones of the Cyberabad Commissionerate during the latest phase of recovery.
Of the total phones recovered, 265 were traced by CCS Shamshabad, 255 by CCS Serilingampally, 181 by CCS Quthbullapur, 160 by CCS Kukatpally, and 155 by CCS Rajendranagar.
Ramesh said police were using advanced technology to trace lost or stolen phones and return them to their owners.
“Mobile phones lost or stolen are being traced through the Central Equipment Identity Register portal and returned to victims. People should immediately register complaints on the portal after losing their phones,” he said.
He added that mobile phones have become an essential tool for work and daily life, and returning them to their owners brings relief to victims.
Police warn public against cyber fraud and suspicious links
The commissioner also urged the public to remain alert against cyber crimes, especially investment schemes promising high returns and suspicious links.
He said the police were conducting “Operation Crackdown” across Telangana to curb cybercrime networks.
Under the operation, police are taking action against individuals assisting cyber criminals. Authorities are also working to return money to victims from frozen bank accounts linked to cyber fraud, he added.
Ramesh also appreciated the IT team and police officers who worked on tracing the lost phones.
Officials advise immediate action after phone loss
Crimes DCP A Muthyam Reddy advised people to block their SIM cards and temporarily secure bank accounts immediately after losing their phones.
He also asked users to set strong passwords or biometric locks on their devices.
People who lose their phones should share their experiences with friends and family to help others stay alert, he said.
Cyber Crime DCP T Sai Manohar warned that if lost phones fall into the hands of cyber criminals, there is a risk of unauthorised withdrawals through UPI payments.
He said police reviewed frozen bank accounts and unfroze 103 accounts on Tuesday after confirming they belonged to individuals not linked to cybercrime.
“Victims should immediately report phone loss to the authorities to prevent financial losses,” he said.
Victims share recovery experiences after losing phones
Several victims who received their phones shared their experiences.
A woman said she lost her phone along with her bag while visiting an exhibition in Alwal with her children two months ago.
“I filed a complaint with the police. Whenever I called the phone it was switched off, and I thought it would never be recovered. I thank Cyberabad police for tracing it and returning it,” she said.
Another victim said he had lost hope of getting his phone back but received a call from police informing him it had been traced.
A man from Karimnagar said he dropped his phone while walking on the road during a visit to Narsingi to see his daughter.
“My bank details and other important information were stored in the phone. I feared someone might misuse it. I am grateful to the Cyberabad police for recovering it,” he said.
Another person from Visakhapatnam said he had faced harassment from a loan app fraud.
He said after taking a small loan, the operators demanded large sums of money and threatened to morph his photographs and post them on social media.
“I approached the cybercrime police and was able to come out of the problem. I thank the police for their help,” he said.
The programme was attended by Crimes DCP A Muthyam Reddy, Cyber Crimes DCP T Sai Manohar, Crimes ACP Y Nageshwar Rao, inspectors B Bhupal Goud, K Ravi Kumar, P Dali Naidu, A Ravi Kumar, P Rajesh, and IT Inspector Narasimha, among others.
