Cyberabad Police to shift minor Cybercrime cases to local stations

Gachibowli: From next year, under the Cyberabad police commissionerate, only cyber crime cases involving over Rs 1.5 lakhs will be booked under Cyberabad’s Cyber crime police station. If the amount involved is less than that, cases will be booked at respective police stations.
Addressing the Cyberabad police Annual round-up meeting, Cyberabad Police Commissioner Avinash Mohanty said, “Earlier in cyber crimes, if the amount was over Rs 15,000, cases were booked in designated Cyber crime police stations. From next year, if the amount is over Rs 1.5 lakhs, cases will be booked in Cyber crime stations, if less than that, the local police station will book a case and investigate the matter.”
According to the latest statistics revealed during the Cyberabad Annual review meeting,overall 11,914 cyber crime cases were booked under Cyberabad police commissionerate limits. “This year, our main focus is cybercrime and economic offenses. If we analyze the overall crime, around 32 percent are cyber crimes. We refunded Rs 70 crores to victims. Digital fraud arrests increased under Cyberabad commissionerate limits. It has become a big menace”, reiterated Avinash Mohanty.
