Cyberabad Police Recover 1,061 Stolen and Lost Mobile Phones Worth ₹3.2 Cr in 45 Days
HYDERABAD: In a major operation, Cyberabad Police have recovered 1,061 stolen and lost mobile phones worth around ₹3.20 crore in just 45 days, under the supervision of DCP Crimes A Muthyam Reddy. The recovered phones were handed over to their rightful owners at a ceremony held on October 16, 2025, at the Cyberabad Police Commissioner’s Office lawns.
Recovery through CEIR Portal
During the ninth phase of the mobile recovery operation across five zones of the Cyberabad Central Crime Station (CCS), the team carried out the recovery using the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal.
DCP Crimes A Muthyam Reddy said, “In the last 45 days alone, we recovered 1,061 mobile phones. Zone-wise recovery figures are: Madhapur CCS – 240, Balanagar CCS – 188, Medchal CCS – 195, Rajendranagar CCS – 233, and Shamshabad CCS – 205.”
He urged citizens to promptly report lost or stolen phones at the nearest police station or through the CEIR portal, noting that mobile phones often contain sensitive personal and financial data. He also cautioned users against cyber fraud and advised contacting the national cybercrime helpline at 1930 or filing complaints at cybercrime.gov.in.
Telangana Leads in Mobile Recoveries
Crimes ADCP K Ram Kumar said, “Mobile phones hold personal, business and financial information. Theft cases are rising, so citizens must stay vigilant. Report any phone loss immediately at a police station or online through the CEIR portal. The CEIR system blocks stolen phones using their IMEI numbers and allows unblocking once recovered.”
Since 2023, Cyberabad Police have recovered 13,423 phones, including 1,061 traced through the CEIR portal with support from CCS Cyberabad and the IT CELL (CAT). Telangana Police are among the top-performing agencies in mobile recoveries nationwide.
Citizens Express Gratitude
Several beneficiaries expressed gratitude. A Gachibowli IT employee, whose stolen phone was used in an attempted ₹2 lakh cyber fraud, said that the police froze his accounts and swiftly recovered the device.Another resident said that they traced and returned his phone, which was lost at a temple, within days.
