Hyderabad: Cyberabad police have recovered 1,100 stolen and lost mobile phones over the past 45 days, under the leadership of DCP Crimes K. Narasimha. The recovery operation, involving the CCS, IT Cell, CCRB, CAT, and Social Media teams, utilised the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal. The recovered phones, valued at ₹3.30 crore, were returned to their owners during a formal event at the Cyberabad CP Office on December 10, 2024.

DCP Crimes K. Narasimha highlighted the importance of mobile security, noting that cybercriminals often exploit mobile thefts to access sensitive personal information, including bank details. He highlighted that despite high education levels, many people remain unaware of how to prevent misuse of their stolen devices.

“Since the launch of the CEIR portal, we have recovered 7,500 phones, including 5,500 this year alone. In the last 45 days, 1,100 phones have been returned to their rightful owners. This recovery drive shows the Cyberabad Police’s commitment to protecting citizens from cybercrimes,” said Narasimha.

The Madhapur CCS recovered 235 phones, while Balanagar CCS recovered 203 phones. The Medchal CCS contributed 185 phones, and Rajendranagar CCS recovered 166 phones. Shamshabad CCS recovered 151 phones, and Medchal Zone recovered 185 phones. Other teams, including the IT Cell, made additional recoveries.

The DCP urged citizens to be cautious against fraud calls and suspicious online links and stressed the importance of securing mobile devices. He encouraged people to report lost or stolen phones through the CEIR portal, which helps prevent misuse and ensures quicker recovery. Narasimha also called on the public to remain vigilant and report cybercrimes promptly through the helpline 1930 or the website cybercrime.gov.in.

Several recovered phone owners shared their gratitude during the event. One man, who had lost his phone at a bus stop, was surprised to receive a call from the police informing him that his phone had been found. A centering worker, whose phone worth ₹20,000 was stolen, expressed joy upon its recovery. Another woman, who was still paying EMIs for her lost phone, thanked the police for returning it.

DCP Narasimha also acknowledged the efforts of the police teams involved in the recovery operation, including CCRB, ACP Crimes Kalinga Rao, CCS ACP K. Shashank Reddy, IT Cell Inspector Anjaneyulu, and various other officers and constables.
