Cyberabad Police demand zero tolerance for ragging in 2024 academic year

Hyderabad: With the commencement of the new academic year, Cyberabad Police, on August 13, 2024, issued a strict warning against ragging, highlighting its strict prohibition within and outside educational institutions.
According to the Telangana Prohibition of Ragging Act of 1997, ragging is considered a serious and punishable offense. Section 4 of the Act states that any individual who participates in or supports ragging with the intention or knowledge of causing harm can face imprisonment for a period ranging from six months to ten years, depending on the severity of the offense.
The Cyberabad Police have urged all educational institutions to proactively prevent ragging. They should establish ‘Anti-Ragging Committees’ consisting of the principal, professors, wardens, parents, and students. These committees should work closely with student union leaders to maintain a ragging-free environment. Additionally, educational institutions are encouraged to display posters highlighting anti-ragging laws at prominent locations within and around the campus.
The Cyberabad Police stated that students convicted and imprisoned under Section 4 of the Act will be dismissed from their educational institution. Additionally, if the imprisonment exceeds six months, the convicted individual will be prohibited from admission to any other educational institution.
The Cyberabad Police are actively conducting anti-ragging awareness programs in various educational institutions to eradicate this social evil. They remain committed to ensuring a safe and secure environment for every student.
