HYDERABAD: Stepping up the investigation into a complaint filed by actor Anasuya Bharadwaj over online abuse, the Cyberabad police on Monday questioned radio jockey Shekhar Basha and recorded his statement.

Police said notices would be served on others named in the case and their statements would be recorded based on the material collected so far.

The complaint names 44 persons, including film producers, television journalists, social media influencers and online content creators. It alleges online abuse, criminal intimidation, defamation and the circulation of morphed and sexually explicit content created using artificial intelligence tools.

According to the first information report registered on January 12, the actor said she became the target of sustained online attacks after speaking during a media interaction on December 20 that women’s clothing is a matter of personal choice.

She alleged that her photographs and videos were edited using AI tools and converted into sexually explicit material, which was circulated without her consent on platforms such as YouTube, Instagram and X. The complaint included digital evidence such as URLs and screenshots and named several accounts, while also referring to numerous unnamed users and pages.
