Cyberabad Police orders liquor shop closures ahead of Telangana Legislative Council Elections

Hyderabad: Avinash Mohanty, Commissioner of Police, Cyberabad, has announced the closure of all toddy shops, wine shops, bars attached to restaurants, bars in star hotels, and registered clubs in the jurisdiction of Kollur and R.C. Puram police stations. This order will be in effect from 4:00 p.m. on February 25, 2025, until 4:00 p.m. on February 27, 2025, in connection with the Biennial Elections to the Telangana State Legislative Council from the Graduates’ and Teachers’ constituencies (Medak-Nizamabad-Adilabad-Karimnagar).
The closure comes in compliance with the statutory provisions of Section 135-C of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, and the notification issued by the Chief Electoral Officer of Telangana (U.O. Note No. 214/Elecs.A/A1/2025-13, Dated: January 31, 2025).
The order also applies to non-proprietary clubs, star hotels, restaurants, and hotels holding various licenses for the possession and supply of liquor. These establishments are prohibited from serving liquor during the mentioned period.
The closure is mandated to maintain law and order during the elections and will remain enforced until 4:00 p.m. on February 27, 2025.
