Cyberabad police remove kite strings in safety drive

HYDERABAD: With the objective of preventing injuries and loss of life, Cyberabad Police on Saturday conducted special drives to identify and remove dangerous kite strings hanging from streets, trees, electricity poles and buildings across their jurisdiction.
The drives saw large-scale voluntary participation from local residents and morning walkers, police said.
Drives held across multiple police station limits
As part of the operation, special drives were carried out in the limits of Gachibowli, Ameenpur, Patancheru, Kollur and IDA Bollaram police station areas.
In Gachibowli, police teams inspected Kondapur and Majid Banda localities with public support, removing kite strings from trees, power poles, roads and buildings. Awareness was also created against the use of hazardous kite strings.
Warning against illegal manufacture and sale of manjha
In Ameenpur police station limits, police, along with about 150 walkers, removed kite strings at Ilapur Ground and Tulasivanam Colony. Residents were informed that the purchase or use of such strings is illegal and would invite legal action.
Similar awareness drives were conducted with locals at Maitri Ground, Saki Cheruvu and the government hospital area in Patancheru, while police also sensitised the public along the ORR radial road and Ozone Heights Ground in Kollur. In IDA Bollaram limits, glass-coated kite strings found on roads were removed.
Police warned that strict legal action would be taken against those involved in the manufacture, sale, storage or use of lethal kite strings. They urged citizens to report any sale of Chinese manjha to Dial 100 or the nearest police station. People were also advised to carefully remove and safely dispose of kite strings if found hanging in public places.
