Hyderabad: With the Sankranti festival approaching, the Cyberabad Police have issued a public advisory to help residents secure their homes and prevent property offences while they are away. As many people travel during the holiday season, the police are urging residents to take preventive measures to ensure the safety of their properties.

The police advise residents to inform their local police station about their travel plans, including the dates of departure and return, especially if they plan to leave their homes vacant. This will help the police monitor the area more closely. Additionally, installing a central locking system and security alarms with motion sensors can enhance the security of homes during the vacation.

To protect vehicles, the police recommend parking two-wheelers inside the compound, ensuring they are locked, and using wheel chains for added security. Residents are also encouraged to hire trusted security guards or watchmen to monitor the property in their absence.

CCTV cameras at entry and exit points of the home can help keep track of activity around the property. It is important to store the DVR in a secure place to prevent tampering or theft of footage. The police also suggest keeping lights on both inside and outside the home to create the impression of occupancy. Additionally, it is advised to cover locked doors with curtains to prevent them from being visible to outsiders.

Residents should avoid leaving signs of their absence, such as garbage, newspapers, or milk packets, outside the house. Informing trusted neighbors about travel plans and asking them to keep an eye on the property is also recommended. Key security is crucial, and it’s advised not to leave spare keys in easily accessible places like under pillows or in shoe racks.

Lastly, the police caution against sharing travel plans on social media platforms, as this could alert potential criminals to an empty home. Travel details should only be shared with trusted individuals.

For any suspicious activity or emergencies, the public can contact the Cyberabad Police Control Room at 9490617100, use the WhatsApp number 9490617444, or dial 100 for immediate assistance. The Cyberabad Police urge everyone to stay vigilant and secure their homes this Sankranti.
