ACB arrests Cyberabad Police Inspector for demanding bribe, face charges

Hyderabad: Inspector of Police Akula Venkatesham at Suraram Police Station under Cyberabad Commissionerate, was caught redhandedly by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), Rangareddy Unit. The arrest took place on June 21, 2024, at 6.15 p.m., following allegations of corruption.
The ACB’s action came after Ratnakaram Sai Raju, a resident of Gajularamaram Village, Quthbullapur Mandal, Medchal-Malkajgiri District, filed a complaint against Inspector Venkatesham.
The complaint accused the officer of demanding a bribe amounting to Rs 5,00,000 for facilitating development work on Raju’s land. It was reported that Venkatesham had already accepted Rs 1,00,000 as a partial payment of the bribe.
Further investigations revealed that Inspector Venkatesham had previously accepted Rs 2,00,000 from the complainant as a bribe to refrain from initiating criminal proceedings against Raju. Evidence collected during the investigation included the recovery of the bribe money from Venkatesham and the positive chemical testing of items such as a bed sheet and pillow cover from his residence.
Inspector Venkatesham was promptly arrested and is being presented before the First Additional Special Judge for Special Enforcement (SPE) and ACB Cases at Nampally, Hyderabad. The case remains under investigation by the authorities.

ACB requested the public to approach them if any government official demands a bribe through their tollfree number of ACB, i.e. 1064. Further assured to take stringent action as per the law of land.
In similar incident, an officer who is working in Central Crime Station (CCS) was caught redhandedly by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on June 13 (Thursday). The tainted official allegedly demanded a bribe of fifteen lakhs to do an official favour and was arrested while taking a bribe of Three lakhs.
ACB, Hyderabad City Unit identified the tainted official as Chamakuri Sudhakar, Inspector of Police, Team-7, Economic Offences Wing (EOW), Central Crime Station (CCS), Detective Department, Hyderabad Commissionerate.
According to the ACB, the tainted official Chamakuri Sudhakar demanded Rs 5,00,000 and accepted the bribe amount of Rs 3,00,000 from the complainant Mani Ranga Swamy, resident of Old Bowenpally, Secunderabad for showing official favour “to help the complainant in the investigation of case registered against him at CCS, Hyderabad and also for disposal of the case in favour of the complainant.
“The accused official accepted the money at Parking place Opp. CCS (old CP office Basheer Bagh). He noticed ACB staff and left the bag and started running on the road towards the temple opposite to the Commissioner of Police office. Inspector Satish. Police constable Munna, Govind Naik and Harikanth Reddy chased him and caught him”, said ACB official.
Investigation revealed that the corrupt official initially demanded Rs 15,00,000 and already accepted Rs 5,00,000 as advance. The bribe amount was recovered from the shoulder bag of the accused officer at his instance and the contact portion of the shoulder bag yielded positive in a chemical test, said ACB.
“The Accused Officer thereby performed their public duty improperly and dishonestly ACB arrested the accused Chamakuri Sudhakar, Inspector of Police and produced before the First Addl. Special Judge for SPE and ACB cases, Court at Nampally, Hyderabad,” said ACB in an official statement. Further investigation is underway.
