Fake Job Offers Scam Cyberabad Police

HYDERABAD: The Cyberabad Cyber Crime Police apprehended a man involved in a large-scale job fraud scheme. The accused, Kilaru Seetaiah, extorted Rs. 5.64 lakh from victims by providing fake job offers at Ericsson Global India Pvt Ltd. Seetaiah posed as a senior employee and promised job placements to unsuspecting individuals.

Case details

The fraudster contacted victims through job profiles posted on Naukri and LinkedIn. He posed as a senior employee at Ericsson and claimed he could secure them jobs for a fee. Believing his claims, victims sent him money as a token amount. Seetaiah conducted fake interviews and issued fake joining letters. Victims realized the fraud only when they reported to the fake office for joining.

Seetaiah used the extorted money for stock market trading and online gambling. The police registered several cases against him under section 420 IPC and Sec 66-D of IT Act 2000-2008 at Cyber Crime PS, Cyberabad, among others.

Seetaiah acquired contact information from job profiles on popular job portals. He contacted the victims, promising job placements at Ericsson for a fee. After receiving the initial token amount, he conducted fake interviews and issued bogus joining letters. The victims only discovered the fraud upon reaching the supposed office for their joining date.

The police seized one laptop from the accused. They registered multiple cases against him for job fraud under various sections of the IPC and IT Act. The accused is involved in several cases across different police stations in Cyberabad and Hyderabad.

The operation was conducted under the supervision of Commissioner of Police, Cyberabad. Officers B. Ravinder Reddy, ACP, and K. Chandrakanth, ACP of Cybercrime PS, along with K. Ravi Kumar, Inspector of Police, and other personnel, played key roles in the investigation and arrest.

Advisory to the public

The Cyberabad Police urge the public to verify job offers through official company channels. They advise against making payments to individuals claiming to secure employment. Police requested the public to report if they notice any suspicious activity to the police immediately through the toll-free number 1930 and lodge a complaint on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCRP)..
