Cyberabad police apprehend over 500 motorists for drunk driving

Hyderabad: Cyberabad traffic police launched a crackdown against drunk driving and apprehended 513 individuals over the weekend. All apprehended motorists will be presented before the court, the police said.

The traffic police conducted a major drive to check for drunk driving from 2 p.m. on Friday to 6 a.m. on Sunday. During this period, the police caught 425 two-wheeler drivers, 24 three-wheeler drivers, 60 four-wheeler drivers, and four heavy vehicle drivers.

The breathalyzer tests revealed that 64 offenders had blood alcohol concentrations (BAC) ranging between 200 mg/100 ml and 550 mg/100 ml. Notably, persons found driving under the influence of alcohol and causing an accident that leads to loss of life will be arrested. They will face charges under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (culpable homicide not amounting to murder). These charges carry a maximum sentence of up to 10 years in jail, along with a fine.
