Cyberabad police report 2024: 421 NDPS cases, 954 arrests in record year

Hyderabad: The Cyberabad Police Commissioner, Avinash Mohanty, presented the annual report during the Cyberabad Annual Review Meeting on December 24, 2024. The report revealed statistics related to drug-related offenses under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. It outlined the rise in NDPS cases and drug seizures in 2024 compared to the previous year and significant drug disposal efforts by the police.
Surge in NDPS Cases in 2024
The number of NDPS cases registered in 2024 saw a significant increase. A total of 421 cases were registered, a sharp rise from the 278 cases registered in 2023. This increase in cases was accompanied by a rise in the number of individuals arrested. In 2023, 570 individuals were arrested for drug-related offenses, while in 2024, the number of arrests surged to 954.
The total quantity of drugs seized in 2024 was 2,714.772 kilograms, with a total value of Rs. 24.92 crore. This represents a substantial increase compared to 2023, when 6,722.905 kilograms of drugs worth Rs. 18.64 crore were seized. Among the major drugs seized in 2024, Ganja and its related derivatives accounted for the largest quantity, with 2,698.764 kilograms seized, valued at Rs. 6.75 crore. Heroin seizures also saw a rise, with 2.254 kilograms seized in 2024, valued at Rs. 15.78 crore, compared to no heroin seizures in 2023.
In terms of synthetic drugs, MDMA seizures rose from 0.261 grams in 2023 to 0.541 grams in 2024. Other substances, like Alprazolam, Cocaine, and LSD, also experienced significant increases in both quantity and value.
Drug Disposal Efforts in 2024
The Cyberabad Police also made significant progress in the disposal of seized drugs throughout 2024. A total of 275 cases led to the disposal of various drugs, amounting to a total of 7,291 kilograms of Ganja, 45.769 kilograms of Ganja chocolates, and 10.945 liters of Hashish Oil. Additionally, 177.254 grams of MDMA, 118.01 grams of Cocaine, 10.010 kilograms of Alprazolam, and 52 LSD papers were disposed of. The total value of the disposed drugs amounted to Rs. 19.08 crore.
V.B. Kamalasan Reddy, DCA’s Director General, urged the public to report any illegal drug manufacturing or distribution activities, including narcotics and psychotropic substances, in residential, commercial, or industrial areas. Complaints can be made through the DCA’s Toll-Free Number, 1800-599-6969, which is operational from 10:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on all working days.
