CMC pushes Zomato to delist repeat food safety violators
HYDERABAD: The Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC) has held a follow-up meeting with Zomato’s legal team to strengthen food safety compliance at the online food delivery platform level.
The meeting builds on the corporation’s ongoing food safety inspections and its coordination with online food delivery platforms. Discussions focused on measures to improve regulatory compliance and consumer safety.
Focus on FSSAI verification and repeat offenders
According to the CMC, the discussions covered the delisting and cancellation of Food Business Operators (FBOs) that repeatedly violate food safety and hygiene norms.
The corporation also proposed verification of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) licence number, its validity and the category of business before onboarding establishments onto the platform. Officials also discussed preventing multiple establishments from operating under a single FSSAI licence.
Another key proposal was to strengthen compliance checks before allowing previously non-compliant establishments to resume operations on the platform.
Zomato assures cooperation
The CMC said Zomato assured its cooperation in implementing stronger compliance measures. The corporation said the initiative is aimed at reinforcing ongoing food safety efforts and improving consumer safety through better platform-level enforcement.
