Food Safety June22

HYDERABAD: Food Safety teams of the Commissionerate of Municipal Corporation (CMC), Cyberabad, identified multiple food safety and hygiene violations during inspections at two restaurants and a packaged drinking water unit on June 22, 2026. Improvement notices were issued and operators were directed to implement corrective measures. The report follows standard newsroom practices on clarity, brevity and attribution.

During an inspection at Kodikura Chittigare in Nallagandla, officials found that raw chicken, desserts and mango pulp had been received without proper labels. The unlabelled items were discarded immediately.

Hygiene, storage and documentation concerns

Inspectors also found that water testing reports for cooking water were unavailable, the chiller was overloaded and two food handlers had untrimmed nails. Dust accumulation was noticed on the grinding area ceiling, food waste remained uncleared in drain areas and the kitchen ceiling required cleaning.

Medical fitness records and packaging material testing reports were not available. The restaurant scored 60 out of 98 marks (62%) in the hygiene assessment. An improvement notice was issued directing the establishment to strengthen hygiene, documentation, storage and housekeeping practices.

At Kanchi Cafe in Puppalaguda, inspectors observed open dustbins between the kitchen and store room, resulting in foul odour and attracting houseflies. Dust accumulation was found on the store room ceiling, while water stagnation was seen near grinding and vegetable-cutting areas.

Officials also detected mould growth on cauliflower, foul smell near drains and batter stored in refrigerators without labels. Houseflies and cockroaches were observed in the kitchen and store room. Medical fitness, pest-control, water-testing and packaging material testing records were unavailable.

The cafe received 56 out of 94 marks (60%) in the hygiene assessment. Officials instructed the management to improve food labelling and housekeeping and issued an improvement notice for immediate rectification of violations.

Drinking water unit inspected before licence approval

The Food Safety team also conducted a pre-licence inspection at Natural Aqua, a packaged drinking water unit in Rodamestry Nagar under Gajularamaram Circle.

Officials noted several positive practices, including properly sloped flooring, diversion of wastewater into a rainwater-harvesting pit and clean walls and ceilings free from dust and cobwebs.

However, food handlers were not using headcaps, gloves or aprons. The bottling unit lacked adequate barriers to prevent pest and dust entry. Records related to pest control, medical fitness and cleaning schedules were unavailable.

Inspectors further noted that a no-objection certificate for groundwater extraction had not been obtained, the water analysis report lacked microbial analysis, the transportation vehicle did not have an FSSAI licence and NABL certification for packing materials was not produced. Application documents were also found to be inadequately self-attested.

Water samples were collected for laboratory analysis. The food business operator was directed to rectify all deficiencies and resubmit the application with complete documentation. The unit scored 101 out of 158 marks (64%) in the hygiene assessment.

Officials said all three establishments had been instructed to implement corrective measures to ensure compliance with food safety standards. The story has been structured following standard reporting and editing principles for clarity and readability.
