Cyberabad police book 281 drunk-driving cases in two day drive

HYDERABAD: The Cyberabad Traffic Police booked 281 cases of drunk driving during a special enforcement drive conducted between February 27 and February 28, 2026.
Miyapur traffic police station reported the highest number of cases at 46, followed by Medchal (35), Gachibowli (32), Balanagar (28) and Raidurgam (25).
Two-wheelers top violations list
Of the total cases, 224 involved two-wheelers, accounting for the majority of violations. Four-wheelers were involved in 42 cases, three-wheelers in eight and heavy vehicles in seven.
Young adults form bulk of offenders
Age-wise analysis showed that 118 offenders were in the 21–30 age group, while 99 were aged between 31 and 40. Another 48 violators were in the 41–50 category. Seven cases involved individuals aged 18–20. There were no cases involving minors.
Blood alcohol concentration (BAC) levels indicated that 109 offenders recorded levels between 51 and 100 mg per 100 ml of blood. Sixty-three cases fell in the 101–150 range.
Thirty-seven offenders recorded BAC levels between 36 and 50, while another 37 were in the 151–200 range. Nineteen cases were between 201 and 300, and 16 offenders recorded levels between 301 and 500 and above.
Under Section 185 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, the permissible limit of alcohol in blood while driving in India is 30 mg per 100 ml.
Police said strict enforcement against drunken driving would continue and urged motorists not to drive under the influence of alcohol.
