Cybercrime police officials detain accused in abusive Instagram comment case in Cyberabad

TELANGANA: Cybercrime police in Cyberabad have apprehended a security guard for allegedly posting an abusive and offensive comment on a social media platform.

The case was detected after investigators identified the person responsible for posting objectionable content online, police said.

Accused traced through Instagram activity and detained in Madhapur

The accused was identified as Kotipalli Venkanna, who works as a security guard. Police said he frequently watched Instagram reels during his free time.

While browsing the platform recently, he viewed a reel of actor Renu Desai posted on the Sakshi News page. After watching the video, he allegedly posted an abusive comment from his Instagram account.

On March 17, 2026, cybercrime police apprehended him in Madhapur. Officers informed him of the reasons for his detention and took him to the Cyber Crime police station in Gachibowli.

Mobile phone seized during verification of objectionable content

During verification, the accused produced his Vivo mobile phone, which police said was used to post the comment. Further legal action is being pursued under relevant provisions.

Police advised social media users to maintain responsible online behaviour and avoid posting abusive, defamatory or offensive content. They warned that objectionable posts can attract legal action.

Citizens were also urged to report cyber offences to the nearest cyber crime police station or through the 1930 cyber helpline.
