Telangana Soon to Get Online Portal for Quick Birth and Death Certificates

HYDERABAD: The Central government has launched the Civil Registration System (CRS) portal, a digital platform for registering birth and death certificates online. All states are now required to adopt it.
Currently, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) issues birth and death certificates in the city. The Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) handles registrations in the Cantonment area. Different systems across states had allowed thousands of fake certificates to circulate, mainly to claim government benefits, an SCB senior official told reporters.
GHMC officials recently uncovered 26,000 fake certificates. They recommended criminal action against the outsourcing staff responsible for the fraud.
Once implemented, the CRS system will provide birth and death certificates online within three days. Applicants can also receive certificates at Mee Seva centres within five days for ₹30 per document.
Certificates crucial for official processes and benefits
Birth certificates are needed for school admissions, passports, voter ID cards (EPIC), driving licences, PAN cards, Aadhaar, proving age for marriage, visa applications, and other immigration procedures. They are also essential for accessing social security benefits from central and state governments.
Death certificates help in transferring ancestral property to heirs and claiming life insurance or pensions.
