Congress Leader’s Grandson Booked for Drunk Driving in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: Vashisht Dhruv, 21, the grandson of senior Congress leader K. Keshav Rao, has been booked for drunk driving after allegedly causing an accident in Jubilee Hills on Sunday afternoon.

The incident took place as Dhruv was driving from KBR Park toward the Jubilee Hills Checkpost. He is accused of crashing into a goods vehicle transporting LPG cylinders that was stopped at a traffic signal.

Police arrived at the scene shortly after the collision and took Dhruv to the station, where a breathalyzer test confirmed he had consumed alcohol. His vehicle was seized, and he was charged with negligent driving under relevant legal provisions. Dhruv was released after being issued a notice.

In a separate case, three men were arrested by Filmnagar police in connection with a drunk driving incident that occurred on March 28, 2025.

The accused have been identified as B. Raj Kiran (28), B. Mallikarjun (21), and K. Snehit (24), were involved in a car crash that damaged multiple parked vehicles, including a motorcycle belonging to a local resident, Hasmathullah Khan, who filed a complaint.

Raj Kiran, who was behind the wheel, reportedly lost control of the vehicle and collided with the parked vehicles. Police registered a case for rash and negligent driving.

The arrests followed a special enforcement drive by Cyberabad Traffic Police over the weekend of March 29, aimed at curbing drunk driving. During the operation, 222 individuals were apprehended.

As part of the drive, authorities seized 163 two-wheelers, 9 three-wheelers, 48 four-wheelers, and 2 heavy vehicles. Among those caught, 13 had blood alcohol levels between 200 mg/100 ml and 500 mg/100 ml, while 5 exceeded 500 mg/100 ml.

All accused will be produced before the court. Police have reiterated that those involved in fatal drunk driving incidents may face serious charges under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, which provides for up to 10 years in prison and a fine for culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
