Hyderabad: Amid serious threat from illegal settlers over acres of government land, valued at around Rs 1,200 crore, on Road No. 12 in Banjara Hills, Hyderabad’s district administration has stepped in to protect it.

Hyderabad Collector Anudeep Durishetty, along with a team of officials, visited a 12-acre prime government land on Tuesday. He carried out the inspection of the land parcel and reviewed the progress of fencing works.

With an estimated cost of Rs. 35 lakh, the district administration is fencing the land with galvanised sheets and poles to discourage illegal squatters from occupying it. The land parcel is located close to the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) in Survey No. 102/1 on Road No. 12 in Banjara Hills.

The Collector also examined the work done by the Differential Global Positioning System (DGPS) on the open land. The authorities have employed the DGPS to survey the land parcel and to determine the boundaries of the government land as the digital record of the area will help in preventing any encroachment on the vacant government land.

After the inspection, Durishetty directed the officials to expedite the fencing work by employing more labourers and finish the work by Saturday. He also asked the officials to put up warning boards at the land stating that “This land belongs to the Government of Telangana. Trespassers will be prosecuted.”

The Collector further instructed the revenue department officials to not hesitate in registering criminal cases against anyone who tries to encroach the government land.
