HYDERABAD: India’s latest political phenomenon did not begin with a rally, press conference, or election campaign. It began online — with memes, outrage, and a single word: “cockroach.”

The rapidly growing “Cockroach Janta Party” (CJP) has become one of the country’s most talked-about internet movements after controversial remarks triggered anger among sections of India’s youth online. Many users interpreted the remarks as insulting unemployed youngsters and activists, leading to a flood of memes, protest posts, and eventually the birth of a satirical political movement.

The movement was launched by Abhijeet Dipke, a Boston University student and former AAP social media volunteer. Within days, the party’s Instagram account exploded in popularity, crossing millions of followers with only a few dozen posts.

While the movement began as a national online trend, Telangana — especially Hyderabad — is now witnessing localized versions of the campaign.

Several Hyderabad-based reels and social media pages are adapting the CJP messaging to local issues including:

* Gachibowli forest concerns
* urban infrastructure debates
* fresher salaries in Hyderabad’s IT sector
* student fee reimbursements
* public transport frustrations
* youth unemployment

One viral Telangana reel framed the movement as a “reality check for everyone sitting in power,” directly referencing Hyderabad’s greenery, engineering graduates earning ₹2 lakh packages, and frustrations among students and young professionals.

Online discussions on Reddit’s Hyderabad communities show sharply divided reactions. Some users see the movement as a fresh youth-driven political voice, while others dismiss it as “online noise” or influencer-led activism.

Despite the debate, the scale of the growth has surprised many political observers. The movement now sits in a unique space between satire, activism, meme culture, and digital politics.

Whether Cockroach Janta Party evolves into an actual political force remains uncertain. But one thing is undeniable: it has already succeeded in capturing the attention of India’s internet generation — and Hyderabad is now part of that conversation.
