Telangana Gig Workers Allege Artificial Shortage of CNG and Auto LPG

HYDERABAD: The Telangana Gig and Platform Workers’ Union (TGPWU) on March 20 alleged that filling stations across the country are deliberately restricting the supply of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and Auto LPG to create artificial scarcity and encourage black marketing.
In a statement, the union drew the attention of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri to the issue. It said rumours of a sudden shortfall in fuel supply have led to long queues at filling stations.
Drivers of auto-rickshaws and app-based cabs are waiting for several hours to refill their vehicles, the union said. This has reduced their daily earning capacity, affecting those dependent on daily income to support their families.
Call for central intervention, monitoring mechanisms
The union urged the Centre to ensure uninterrupted and adequate fuel supply across the country. It also sought strict action against supply chain operators and filling stations involved in stockpiling or black marketing.
TGPWU demanded surprise inspections at supply chain godowns and fuel stations. It also called for the formation of State- and district-level coordination committees to check irregularities.
Aggregator firms asked to support drivers during crisis
The union appealed to app-based aggregators such as Ola, Uber and Rapido to support drivers. It asked companies to avoid penalties for reduced trips and review fare structures.
The union said drivers should not be burdened due to circumstances beyond their control.
