CMR college voyeurism: Two arrested, Chairman booked amid allegations of cover-up

Medchal: Cyberabad police have arrested seven individuals, including two perpetrators and five college officials, in connection with a voyeurism case at CMR College that sparked student protests.

According to the Medchal police of Cyberabad commissionerate, two men, identified as Nanda Kishore Kumar and Govind Kumar, both aged 20, hailing from Bihar, were arrested for allegedly engaging in voyeuristic activities targeting female students in the college hostel washrooms. The accused confessed to their crimes. They were remanded to judicial custody on 4 January 2025.

The case was also booked against five college administrators for negligence and trying to suppress the incident. The accused are hostel wardens KV Dhanalaxmi (64) and Allam Preethi Reddy (42), college principal Varahabatla Anantha Narayana (52), director Madireddy Janga Reddy (56), and chairman Chamakura Gopal Reddy.

The investigation revealed that when victims reported the incident to the hostel wardens, they allegedly tried to suppress it. They did not inform the police or the students’ parents. The wardens are accused of making derogatory comments towards the victims and insulting their modesty.

โ€œThe college management, including the principal, director, and chairman, reportedly pressured staff to contain the incident’s exposure to protect the institution’s reputation. They are also accused of providing accommodation to the male perpetrators near the girls’ hostel washrooms, which facilitated the crime, saidN Koto Reddy, Deputy commissioner of police Medchal, Cyberabad commissionerate.

The case was registered under various sections of the BNS Act and POCSO Act at Medchal Police Station. The above arrests were made under the supervision and guidance of B. Srinivas Reddy, ACP Medchal, A. Satyanrayana, SHO Medchal, Sub-Inspectors Manmadharao, Ashok, Anitha and staff of Medchal Police Station, Cyberabad tackled the case.
