Revanth Reddy Illegal Constructions

Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy announced a firm decision against illegal constructions in ponds and canals on September 11, 2024, stating that encroachments will be demolished.

Speaking at the passing-out parade for Sub-Inspectors (SIs) and Assistant Sub-Inspectors (ASIs) at the Raja Bahadur Venkatarama Reddy Telangana Police Academy, the Chief Minister said that structures within Full Tank Level (FTL) and buffer zones need not be regularised. He urged encroachers to withdraw voluntarily, warning that failure to comply could result in legal action, including imprisonment.

During his address, CM Revanth Reddy highlighted the impact of floods on impoverished communities, attributing the worsening flood conditions to encroachments on water bodies. He pledged to clear encroachments and clean the Musi River, with plans to rehabilitate more than 11,000 displaced families in the affected areas.

“The ongoing floods are a direct result of illegal encroachments on lakes and water bodies. These encroachments disrupt natural water flow and exacerbate flood risks in Hyderabad,” the Chief Minister stated. He affirmed that no encroacher, regardless of their influence, would be exempt from eviction or demolition of their illegal constructions. “We will raze them to the ground if necessary,” he added.

CM Revanth Reddy also highlighted the need for effective policing, stating, “We do not have cosmetic policing. Concrete policing is required. Friendly policing is only for victims, not criminals.” He called on newly recruited SCIs and ASIs to show that their role is to serve the public. Additionally, he announced plans to provide 50 acres of residential facilities in Hyderabad and Warangal for police children within two years.

Addressing the issue of unemployment, the Chief Minister highlighted the government’s efforts to fulfill the aspirations of job seekers, which had been unmet for nearly a decade. “We have cleaned the Public Service Commission and made large-scale recruitments. The youth are now preparing for exams with enthusiasm. We are committed to making Telangana a drug-free state,” he said.

Meanwhile, sources have revealed that the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Monitoring and Protection Agency (HYDRAA) will have a crucial role in the building permit process. Construction permits for new residential and commercial buildings near lakes and canals will now require a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from HYDRAA.

The government is revising building regulations to require the HYDRAA NOC for all new construction in sensitive areas. Additionally, illegal constructions will not be provided with house numbers, boundary walls, or electricity connections.
