HYDERABAD: Telangana Legislative Assembly passed a resolution condemning the discrimination in the central budget allocations for the state. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy introduced the resolution, which received the Assembly’s approval. The resolution demands the necessary amendments to the central budget released on Tuesday.

In his address, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy emphasized the state’s protest against the central government’s budgetary discrimination. He stated that the Telangana government would abstain from the NITI Aayog meeting scheduled for July 27, led by the Prime Minister. “The unfair distribution of funds contradicts the principles of federalism that guarantee equitable treatment among states,” Reddy declared on the Assembly floor.

Resolution approved by assembly

The resolution emphasizes the federal structure of India as visualised by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. Resolution states that the central government has overlooked this federal spirit, exhibiting bias against Telangana in the budget allocations. Resolution states that the discriminatory stance has been continuing since the formation of new state.

According to the Andhra Pradesh Reorganization Act, the central government must ensure balanced development of both the states. However, the central government has failed to fulfill the promises given in the bifurcation act. The delay in implementing these promises has been affecting Telangana’s progress.

Since the formation of the Telangana government, the Chief Minister and other state ministers have repeatedly approached the Prime Minister and other central ministers with various requests. They sought financial assistance for different projects and demanded the release of funds which are due to the state. Despite these efforts, the central government has consistently ignored Telangana’s needs in the budget, the resolution claims. The Assembly expressed deep dissatisfaction and protested against the central government’s approach towards Telangana.

During the ongoing budget discussions, the Assembly urged for amendments to ensure justice for Telangana. The resolution called for immediate action to address the state’s financial needs.

Words of war between Revanth Reddy and BRS leaders

K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) addressed the Assembly, suggesting that the Telangana ministers, led by the Chief Minister, should stage a hunger strike at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar. He assured the Assembly of full support in this endeavor, emphasizing the need to confront the central government and secure the necessary funds.

In response, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy proposed a joint hunger strike with KCR at Jantar Mantar. He declared his commitment to either secure funds for Telangana or face the consequences, stressing the urgency of the situation.

In a counter-argument, Harish Rao questioned Revanth Reddy’s role, pointing out that if KCR and KTR handled various protests, there was little left for Revanth Reddy to do.
