Cleanup drive at Neknampur and Ameenpur Lakes on Sept 28-29

Hyderabad: As part of Swacchata Hi Seva 2024, the Dhruvansh Organisation is organising a cleanup drive on September 28, 2024, at Neknampur Lake at 8:00 a.m., and on September 29, 2024, at Ameenpur Lake, also at 8:00 a.m. This initiative is supported by the Government of Telangana, the Government of India, and the Telangana Biodiversity Board.
Speaking with the Hyderabad Mail, Madhulika S. Chowdary, an environmental activist and founder of the Dhruvansh Organisation, urged all Hyderabad residents to participate. She stated, “We request everyone to join us in restoring and protecting our lakes. Lakes are vital sources of water on Earth. If we want future generations to see water in lakes, we must raise our voices and take action to protect them. My Earth, My Responsibility.”
Madhulika continued, “Help us protect our beautiful lakes and make a positive impact on the environment! Join our cleanup drives this weekend to clear out trash, restore the natural beauty, and enjoy some fresh air. Together, we can make a difference!”

Over the past two years, NITI Aayog has recognised Neknampur Lake as an exemplary model of restoration and maintenance, largely due to the efforts of the Dhruvansh Organisation, which has operated without government assistance.
Madhulika highlighted, “Since 2016, we have not only restored and maintained Neknampur Lake but also planted one lakh trees, elevating it to a national-level lake without any government support. We have implemented various measures, such as floating aerators and floating treatment wetlands, to enhance the lake’s ecosystem.”
Ameenpur Lake, located in Sangareddy District on the outskirts of Hyderabad, is notable for being the first body of water in India recognised as a Biodiversity Heritage Site, making it the first biodiversity site approved in an urban area.
