Post-Ganesh cleanup drive: Volunteers collect over 300 kgs of garbage from Neknampur Lake
Manikonda: In a commendable effort, over 60 volunteers participated in a cleanup drive at Neknampur Lake, located in the Manikonda Municipality, where they successfully collected more than 300 kgs of garbage in just two hours. The event, held on September 28, 2024 (Saturday), was organised by the Dhruvansh Organisation as part of the Swachhata Hi Seva campaign.
Madhulika Chowdary, the Founder of the Dhruvansh Organisation and an environmental activist, spoke with the Hyderabad Mail, highlighting the need for citizen involvement in environmental conservation. “India is a democratic country. The government will not take the environment seriously unless citizens take it seriously. We need to raise our voices to protect and restore our environment,” she stated.
Madhulika Chowdary also shared details of the event on X (formerly Twitter), highlighting the impressive turnout and the volume of waste collected, “At Neknampur Lake today, volunteers participated in a post-Ganesh festival cleanup drive and removed 300 kgs of garbage.”
The initiative received support from the Government of Telangana, the Government of India, and the Telangana Biodiversity Board. The Telangana Biodiversity Board shared pictures from the event on X, reinforcing their commitment to environmental conservation.

The Dhruvansh Organisation has announced another cleanup drive scheduled for September 29, 2024, at Ameenpur Lake. The event will start at 8:00 a.m. Ameenpur Lake is located in Sangareddy District on the outskirts of Hyderabad and is recognised as the first body of water in India to be designated as a Biodiversity Heritage Site.
