Citizens geo-tag 672 trees around KBR Park, release public map after SC stay on felling
HYDERABAD: Residents and Save KBR Park organisers have completed a geo-tagging exercise documenting 672 trees on road medians surrounding KBR National Park, creating a publicly accessible map of the green cover around the park.
Three-day survey maps every standing tree
The comprehensive tree-mapping exercise was released on Thursday at an event held at Lamakaan. According to a press release, the survey recorded 672 trees, including several mature specimens and native species growing on medians around the park.
The initiative was led by development consultant Natasha Ramarathnam. She completed the rapid three-day exercise with the support of 15 citizen volunteers.
GPS coordinates assigned to each tree
Organisers said every standing tree on the medians around KBR National Park was documented using GPS coordinates. Each tree was assigned a unique identification number and identified by species before being plotted on a geo-tagged map.
The map has been placed in the public domain to enable public access and monitoring of the trees.
Exercise follows Supreme Court stay order
The geo-mapping exercise was undertaken following the Supreme Court’s stay order issued on May 18, 2026, which halted further tree felling in the Eco-Sensitive Zone (ESZ) around KBR National Park.
Several participants attended the event and assisted the field team in identifying tree species during the survey.
