Choutuppal sees heavy traffic on Hyderabad–Vijayawada highway

CHOUTUPPAL: Heavy vehicular traffic was reported on the Hyderabad–Vijayawada National Highway near Choutuppal on Friday evening around 7 pm, as people travelled to their native places ahead of the Sankranti festival.
With a large number of residents from Hyderabad and other regions heading out, traffic congestion increased on the highway. Travel rush that began on January 8 has continued over the past few days.
According to toll plaza officials, around 1,60,000 vehicles travelled towards Vijayawada from Friday to Monday. From midnight on Monday till Wednesday morning, another 40,000 vehicles are expected to pass through.
Data from the Panthangi toll plaza shows sustained movement of vehicles towards Vijayawada. Festival-related travel is expected to continue till Tuesday midnight.
Traffic intensity reduced slightly compared to the previous three days. Between 7 am and 5 pm on Monday, vehicle movement towards Vijayawada remained relatively low. Traffic picked up later in the evening and continued at a moderate level till 10 pm.
