Chityal elects transgender candidate Nagilla Sudhakar

TELANGANA: An unexpected result emerged in the Chityal municipality election in Nalgonda district, with a transgender candidate securing victory in Ward 1.
Chityal municipality has 12 wards. Congress candidates won nine wards and secured control of the civic body. The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), the principal Opposition party, won two wards, while an Independent candidate won one ward.
In Ward 1, transgender candidate Nagilla Sudhakar, who contested as an Independent, defeated nominees of major political parties to win the seat. His victory drew attention in the municipality, as he overcame established party candidates.
Ward 1 verdict draws attention
Sudhakar thanked ward residents for placing their trust in him. “I thank the people of the ward for supporting me. I will work for the development of the ward,” he said.
He said priority would be given to basic civic amenities and addressing local issues raised during the campaign.
Congress forms municipal body
With nine seats, Congress secured a clear majority in the 12-member municipal council. The party is set to form the municipal administration.
The BRS, which emerged as the main Opposition in the municipality, won two wards. An Independent candidate won one ward apart from Sudhakar.
Officials said the election process was completed peacefully, and counting was conducted as per schedule.
