Chiranjeevi Condemns Ai Morphed Videos Calls For Industry Action

HYDERABAD: Actor Chiranjeevi has condemned the use of artificial intelligence (AI) to create degrading and morphed videos of women. He said those who create, circulate or amplify such content must face legal action.

His remarks come amid concerns over the circulation of AI-generated and morphed content involving women in the film industry. Chiranjeevi said people should not dismiss the misuse of AI as entertainment or a joke.

He also called for collective action from the Telugu film industry, governments and cybercrime authorities.

Chiranjeevi calls for action

Chiranjeevi shared on X: “I am deeply disturbed by the use of AI to create degrading and morphed videos of a woman. Such acts are cruel, shameful and completely unacceptable. I strongly condemn them.

“This is not an issue concerning just one individual or one film. Today, it has happened to someone else. Tomorrow, it could happen to you, me or anyone we know. We cannot remain silent simply because it has not affected us personally. Every one of us has a responsibility to stand against this abuse.

“Those who create such content and those who deliberately spread or amplify it must be held accountable under the law. This cannot be dismissed as a joke or treated as entertainment.

“I will take this matter up with the Telugu Film Chamber, the Producers’ Council and our affiliated industry bodies. I will recommend the formation of a dedicated committee and support cell.

“Working closely with Cyber Crime authorities, this team should support those affected. It should also coordinate efforts to remove such content and pursue legal action against those responsible.

“The entire Telugu film fraternity must come together for this effort. Our associations, artists, technicians, audiences and fans all have a role to play.

“I also urge the Central and State Governments to take strong and effective measures against the misuse of AI for such abuse.

“Please do not watch, download, share or circulate these videos, even with the intention of condemning them. Report them to the respective platforms and Cyber Crime authorities instead.

“Protecting human dignity is our collective responsibility. Let us stand together, speak up and act.”

Concerns over AI misuse

Chiranjeevi’s comments highlight wider concerns over the misuse of generative AI. The technology can manipulate photographs and videos without a person’s consent.

Such content can cause serious harm when it appears sexually explicit or degrading. The problem becomes more serious when people falsely present manipulated content as genuine.

The Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, as amended in 2026, contain provisions covering synthetically generated information. The rules require intermediaries to take measures against unlawful synthetic content.

These measures include action against non-consensual intimate imagery and content that falsely portrays a person or event.

The 2026 rules also provide for prominent labelling and provenance mechanisms for certain types of synthetically generated information. They also require measures to prevent unlawful synthetic content.

Proposed industry support cell

According to Chiranjeevi’s statement, the proposed committee and support cell would help people affected by such content.

The team would also coordinate efforts to remove the material from online platforms. In addition, it would work with Cyber Crime authorities to pursue legal action against those responsible.

Chiranjeevi urged the Telugu film fraternity, artists, technicians, audiences and fans to support efforts against the misuse of AI.
